PCCM Pre-Fellowship Curriculum

This course is geared toward pediatric trainee physicians who are about to start their pediatric critical care medicine fellowship training in pursuit of subspecialty certification. This is a self-paced, open-enrollment course that may be started and completed at any time.

Audience

Physician Trainees

Learning Objectives
  • Identify common pediatric respiratory problems and signs of respiratory distress

  • Demonstrate proper bag-mask ventilation technique and identify how to troubleshoot if ventilation is ineffective

  • Compare and contrast the use of different intubation medications and their related pharmacologic profiles in the context of a variety of clinical scenarios

  • Generate a standardized approach to preparing for intubation

  • Demonstrate proper endotracheal intubation technique on a simulated manikin

  • Describe and practice the basic principles of invasive mechanical ventilation

  • Develop an approach to managing pediatric traumatic brain injury using neuroprotective strategies

  • Develop a standardized approach to interpreting electrocardiograms

  • Demonstrate proper technique for placement of the following: intraosseous lines, peripheral arterial lines, and chest tubes
