Released:

May 3, 2018

Audience:

Physicians, Nurses, Nursing Students

Learning Objectives
  • Recall key neonatal airway‑relevant anatomic features identified on physical examination that may affect mask ventilation or endotracheal intubation

  • Explain how findings such as nasal obstruction, oral cavity anomalies, jaw structure, or abnormal tone influence neonatal airway management and intubation planning

  • Apply a focused neonatal airway assessment to identify conditions that may complicate intubation or require alternative airway strategies

  • Analyze neonatal respiratory findings and upper airway anatomy to determine when escalation toward advanced airway support should be anticipated

  • Evaluate neonatal airway risk factors identified on physical exam to guide equipment selection, backup planning, and escalation of care
