Tracheostomy Troubleshooting

This lecture will review common tracheostomy related problems and outline initial management steps in a case-based fashion. Please note, this is not a comprehensive course on advance tracheostomy troubleshooting, and never be afraid to ask for help when managing a difficult airway.

  • Understand general management considerations when dealing with tracheostomy tubes

  • Increase familiarity with identifying and managing common tracheostomy-related complications, including difficulty passing suction, bleeding from around or within the tracheostomy tube, oxygenation and/or ventilation issues, and accidental tube dislodgement
