Thermoregulation
In this video, Francois Biziyaremye, RN, and MCH Program Manager of Partners in Health, outlines important considerations in the thermoregulation of a newborn.

Learning Objectives
Explain the importance of thermoregulation in newborns and describe the mechanisms through which newborns lose heat.
Identify newborns at increased risk for hypothermia and implement evidence-based measures to prevent heat loss immediately after birth and during hospitalization.
Apply Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) appropriately for eligible newborns, including correct positioning, monitoring, and discharge planning.
Select and safely use external heat sources, including radiant warmers and incubators, based on newborn characteristics, clinical status, and thermoregulatory needs.
Evaluate newborn temperature status and modify thermoregulation strategies to effectively manage hypothermia while preventing hyperthermia and treatment-related complications.
