Resuscitation
In this chapter of the Rwandan National Neonatal Protocol, Dr. Christian Umuhoza discusses neonatal resuscitation practices. Participants will be able to prepare for delivery, identify prenatal conditions that increase the risk of needing resuscitation at the delivery, identify the equipment and the personnel needed at each delivery in preparation for neonatal resuscitation, and also they'll be able to explain the four increasing levels of neonatal resuscitation and how to assess the need to move to a higher level of intervention. They'll also be able to demonstrate effective bag mask ventilation in the newborn.

Learning Objectives
Prepare the delivery environment, personnel, and equipment required to safely perform neonatal resuscitation at every birth.
Identify maternal, fetal, and perinatal risk factors that increase the likelihood of a newborn requiring resuscitation at delivery.
Assess newborn status immediately after birth and determine when routine care is appropriate versus when resuscitation should be initiated.
Apply the stepwise neonatal resuscitation algorithm, including airway management, positive pressure ventilation, chest compressions, and medication administration based on the newborn’s clinical response.
Demonstrate effective neonatal resuscitation techniques and evaluate ongoing patient response to determine the need for escalation, continuation, or discontinuation of interventions.
