Non Electric Infant Warmer
In this chapter of the Rwandan National Neonatal Protocol, Marthe Kubwimana introduces the non-electric infant warmer. She outlines the circumstances when an infant warmer is useful, how it can prevent hypothermia, and how it can be used to complement Kangaroo Mother Care. She also describes the proper techniques for preparation, use, cleaning and storage of the infant warmer.

Learning Objectives
Describe the purpose, design, and thermal properties of a non-electric infant warmer and explain its role in supporting neonatal thermoregulation.
Identify clinical situations in which a non-electric infant warmer should be used as a complement to Kangaroo Mother Care, including management of hypothermia, prevention of heat loss, and circumstances in which KMC is temporarily unavailable or insufficient.
Apply established criteria to determine which newborns are at risk for hypothermia and may benefit from the use of a non-electric infant warmer.
Demonstrate the correct preparation, positioning, use, cleaning, and storage of a non-electric infant warmer to support safe and effective neonatal care.
