Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Nursing Curriculum

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Nursing Curriculum consists of 41 video lectures covering material relevant to nurses working in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Units. The lectures range in topic from development, to congenital cardiac defects, to post-operative assessment and care for cardiac patients. The curriculum also includes many instructional animations and illustrations to augment the lectures.

Learning Objectives
  • Describe normal cardiac anatomy and physiology both in fetal development and post-natally

  • Identify best practices in the assessment and monitoring of pediatric patients with cardiac disease

  • Review common presentations of congenital heart disease, including the anatomical features, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management

  • Identify basic principles of post-operative care and management for pediatric cardiac surgery patients

  • Recognize common arrhythmias and management approach in both medical and surgical pediatric cardiac patients

  • Review pediatric advanced life support (PALS) algorithms and management of cardiac emergencies, both medical and surgical

  • Develop a framework for teamwork and event management in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit
