Cardiovascular Assessment
Learn to assess a pediatric patient’s cardiovascular status and perform a detailed physical exam with a focus on cardiovascular status.

Learning Objectives
Describe the components of a comprehensive cardiovascular assessment, including general appearance, vital sign evaluation, physical examination findings, and ongoing patient monitoring.
Demonstrate accurate assessment and interpretation of cardiovascular vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, mean arterial pressure (MAP), pulse quality, and capillary refill time.
Apply cardiovascular assessment techniques to evaluate perfusion and cardiac function through observation of skin color, edema, jugular venous distention, temperature gradients, pulse characteristics, and heart sounds.
Analyze cardiovascular assessment findings to identify evidence of altered perfusion, compromised cardiac output, shock, heart failure, or other cardiovascular abnormalities.
Evaluate clinical cardiovascular data to recognize early and late indicators of patient deterioration and determine when urgent escalation of care or emergency intervention is warranted.
