OPENPediatrics has partnered with the International Network for Simulation-based Pediatric Innovation, Research, and Education (INSPIRE) to develop the Neonatal Tracheal Intubation video.
The INSPIRE group is a collaborative group of simulation experts, clinicians, educators, investigators, statisticians, human factors researchers, and psychologists who have one common goal and mission: to improve the care delivered to all neonates, infants, and children using simulation.
Neonatal tracheal intubation is an essential skill utilized in stabilization of the airway in neonatal patients with respiratory failure undergoing anesthesia. The Neonatal Tracheal Intubation video discusses the indications and contraindications for tracheal intubation, reviews pertinent airway anatomy, and equipment used, and demonstrates the steps required to successfully perform tracheal intubation. Additionally, potential complications, appropriate aftercare, and common pitfalls are discussed.
Please visit the INSPIRE group on OPENPediatrics to view the Neonatal Tracheal Intubation toolkit which includes the Neonatal Tracheal Intubation video and checklist to be used for assessing a learner's skill of neonatal tracheal intubation during a simulation experience.
