OPENPediatrics launches new web site

OPENPediatrics, the free and open-access continuing education community for pediatric clinicians founded at Boston Children's Hospital, has launched a new version of the OPENPediatrics web site, designed and built in collaboration with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Division of Clinical Informatics. The new site supports all of the functions of the previous OPENPediatrics site, including our content library, public and private groups, and self-paced guided learning pathways, while adding support for browsing on mobile devices, improved library search, and a more personalized user experience.

The new OPENPediatrics home page. The new OPENPediatrics site has been designed to support mobile browsing, with a responsive design optimized for tablets and smartphones. Video streaming on the OPENPediatrics site is now bandwidth-sensitive and will automatically adjust resolution to provide the best possible user experience in all bandwidth conditions. In the coming year, OPENPediatrics will supplement this capability with apps that support offline access to content.

The OPENPediatrics library contains more than 250 videos on aspects of pediatric care, many with printable PDF summaries that can be used as bedside references. Twenty-three medical calculators are available to help clinicians more effectively treat pediatric patients. OPENPediatrics also provides more than 120 medical animations and illustrations developed for our videos and available for non-commercial download and use. The new web site allows users to browse the content by topic or media type, and provides powerful search and filter features.

Each community member registered on the OPENPediatrics site will now have their own My OP page, bringing together most frequently accessed resources, guided learning pathways they've enrolled in, and groups they've joined in a single dashboard page. Users will be able to add content from the library to their own My Resources collection, and build a directory of colleagues they communicate with frequently in their My Colleagues page. A comprehensive record of courses started and completed will be available in their My Learning page.

OPENPediatrics is pleased to make this new version of our web site available and we ask the OPENPediatrics community to take an active role in helping us to further improve the user experience on OPENPediatrics. Feedback and suggestions regarding the new site can be sent to openpediatrics@childrens.harvard.edu.
