International Infection Prevention Week

International Infection Prevention Week takes place the third week of October each year, and raises awareness of the role infection prevention plays to improve patient safety. Each of us—patients, families, and healthcare personnel—has an important role to play in keeping patients safe from infection. Do your part—and hand hygiene is key!

The 2017 theme for International Infection Prevention Week is Antibiotic Resistance. Learn more at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC) website. Also, be sure to participate in the Twitter chat on October 17th using hashtag #IIPWChat and #IIPW.

October 15th is also Global Handwashing Day - a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

In support of International Infection Prevention Week and Global Handwashing Day, OPENPediatrics is pleased to feature our video Prevention of Catheter-Associated Infections by Debra Morrow, RN, BSN, CCRN. In this video, learn about effective strategies targeted at preventing infections associated with central venous catheters.
