April 2019 Physician WSP: Guidelines for the Management of Severe Traumatic Brain injury

In this video, Dr. Patrick Kochanek, Ake N. Grenvik Professor of Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Bioengineering, and Clinical and Translational Science; Director, Safar Center for Resuscitation Research;
UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, outlines new developments appearing in the 3rd edition of “Guidelines for the Management of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury in Children”. He covers revisions made to level II and level III treatment recommendations, and how they translate to the new companion treatment algorithm. The discussion of the new guidelines covers important topics including neuromonitoring, hyperosmolar therapy, analgesics and sedatives, targeted temperature management, and escalation to second-tier therapies. Dr. Kochanek also walks viewers through the new consensus- and evidence-based algorithm article that accompanies the new guidelines, designed for use by bedside clinicians.

Interview conducted by Dr. Robert Tasker, Senior Associate, Critical Care Medicine; Director, Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program at Boston Children's Hospital; and Professor of Anaesthesia (Pediatrics), Harvard Medical School, who was also a prominent contributor to the new TBI guidelines.
