November Nursing WSP: Utilizing High Fidelity End-of-life Simulation to Support the Newly Licensed Nurse

Dr. Maureen Hillier, Staff Nurse II in the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit, discusses the development of the End-of-Life Simulation for Newly Licensed Nurses at Boston Children’s Hospital. She will discuss how this high fidelity simulation supports and educates novice nurses working in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Hillier explains the simulation scenarios and how this experience can benefit pediatric critical care nurses. Interview conducted by Ms. Jennifer Steadman, BSN, RN, CCRN for OPENPediatrics.

  • Understand why the End-of-Life Simulation was developed, and how Dr. Hillier’s qualitative study influenced the project

  • List resources that help nurses become more proficient in end-of-life care
