Critical Care Transport Conference 2017: The Critically Ill Child: Assessment, Stabilization and Transport

Join us for the third annual Critical Care Transport Conference on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 7:30 AM - 4:15 PM.

This conference, presented by the Critical Care Transport Team at Boston Children's Hospital, will focus on the assessment, stabilization, and transport of critically ill infants and pediatric patients. This full day conference will include topics related to respiratory, cardiac, neurologic, neonatal and toxicology emergencies.

Through lectures, case reviews, hands-on skills stations and Q&A, you will gain the practical knowledge and skills needed to assess, recognize and manage the critically ill infant or child outside of a tertiary care center. 

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • altered mental status
  • non-accidental trauma
  • ingestions
  • pediatric arrhythmias
  • the cyanotic newborn
  • respiratory emergencies
  • infectious disease
  • subtle cues of the critically ill child

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify common etiologies for acute critical illness in the pediatric population
  2. Discuss the role of the primary survey in pediatric resuscitation
  3. Identify key features in a rapid neurological assessment
  4. Discuss the etiologies of cyanosis in the newborn
  5. Identify the acute medical and pharmacological interventions for arrhythmias in children
  6. Describe on-scene stabilization and transport management of the critically ill child
